Reuse and recycle

We can see water everywhere. Kids like to play with water. They show their interest when they wash their hands trying to “catch” the running water. So we decided to design a project on the “wonderful world of water”. In this project, various bottles can be really useful. For that purpose, a large number of recycled bottles are brought into the classroom. One parent wondered: “Can bottles like this really be useful?”  The answer is definitely yes. Actually, they are quite valued by the kids. Let me show you how it works!

In the experiment to prove that water is transparent, we put clear water and colored water into different bottles.  Kids observed the difference between them with their eyes. They concluded that we can not see through colorful water but we can see through transparent water. Ranran said, “I can see you through the water.” Leilei said, “I see a lamp!” Niuniu said, “I can see an electric fan! Teacher, I can see you too!”  “I can see my home!” Junjun said. How funny! Is it a telescope or something? Haiqi said,” “I see a swim suit.” Wangjin said, “I can see three sofas. But I can see nothing through the colored water.”

In the fountain experiment, we made the best use of the bottles by piercing the bottom of them. As I did this, kids showed their concern by reminding me “Careful! Miss Wang!”, which was really touching. When we opened the bottle, the water came out of the bottom. When we put the cap back on it, it stopped flowing out. Kids were really interested in this. They also thought it was funny to see the water flow and stop in their control.

We finished with a combination activity about giving water to people in drought-affected areas. In the activity concerning raining, drought, and floods, kids learned that there could be a flood after a storm, just like the recent flood in Hainan If an area lacks rain, there can be a drought. Then, we started a scenario game: giving water to people in drought-affected area. Kids watched the video and learned how the soldiers help people in the drought-affected area. Wangjin said sympathetically, “Let’s give water to Hainan.” Just like this, the activity began. We set up an imaginary drought area, and kids made efforts to transport water to this area. Some used chairs, while others found that big boxes can be really useful. Ziyu said, “Look! We delivered so much water!” The kids are very happy when they help others successfully.

Now you see that we could not have carried out a good educational and practical activity without these bottles and parents’ help. We cannot deny they are bottles of good value. Here, I want to say thank you for bringing in so many useful materials. So, let’s do it together. Dear parents and kids, bring in your waste materials and recycle them. Join us! It’ll give you different feelings and more surprises.
